I brought you some flowers today
I visited for awhile
Wishing I could hear your laughter
See your happy smile.

I sit down beside you
Sadness washes across my face
Wishing we could have had
One lovely last embrace.

I talk about the family,
the grandkids too
Words that were unspoken
Of how proud I was of you.

Times when you put me on your shoulders
So I could touch the sky
A man that was a mountain
If only in my eyes.

I think of you often
but now I must go,
As I lay my hand
upon the granite stone,
I want to thank you Daddy
For all the love you've shown.
