3 Layer Background

Your cheating heart just hurt me so,
In ways you’ll probably never know.
I held your love so close to me,
First time we kissed by that oak tree.

I thought back then that I had found,
A love to be on solid ground.
How wrong I was to think this true,
Now that I know there’s someone new.

There are many lessons to be learned,
From this heart of mine that’s just been burned.
But I won’t shift the blame on you,
I just wish you’d been honest and true.

Did you find it necessary to cheat and lie?
Couldn’t you have simply said good-bye?
Was the truth too hard for you to admit?
When you knew our love would not make it?

Something deep inside tells me, just believe in fate,
But the real world is saying … this time it’s just too late.
I won’t be calling … there’s no more you,
What used to be … is no longer shared by two.

Just be careful, next time your heart you loan,
For the one that gets broken may well be your own.
This day will soon be over ... It’s time to let you go,
There may be dreams of you but you will never know.

I’m strong, I’m tough … and I’m not going to cry,
For every time there's a “Hello” … there’s also a “Goodbye”
I wish you well and happiness in everything you do,
And in your next relationship, I pray that you’ll be true.

My eyes are getting heavy, I think that I shall sleep,
And pray the scars you left are not buried very deep.
You helped me to find God again and I know how to pray,
So I’ll give myself to Him, but for you … I’ll stay away.
